Earn Your Forensic Psychology Degree

Forensic psychology is a specialized branch of psychology that focuses on the criminal justice system. A relatively new field, it plays an increasingly important role in legal proceedings. Forensic psychologists may train police officers and first responders, help select juries, or advise courts regarding child custody matters. They work with social service systems, governments, military branches, psychiatric facilities, prisons, and more to ensure systems remain fair to the people impacted by them.

At Faulkner University, students of our forensic psychology degree program learn the fundamentals of psychology through a set of core courses. This is expanded with additional courses in ethics and criminal justice, preparing them to apply their knowledge in this setting. Students learn how to:

  • Interview a defendant, witness, or victim regarding their mental health
  • Compare witness accounts and identify information inconsistencies
  • Provide testimony in court proceedings
  • Evaluate and select members for a jury or focus group
  • Conduct research and criminal risk assessments
  • Provide mental health services and counseling to inmates
  • Educate police officers on anger management and de-escalation tactics
  • Understand municipal, state, and federal law
  • Uphold high ethical standards

Though the field of forensic psychology is young, it is also broad. Graduates can apply their skills in a wide variety of settings and career paths, including research, policymaking, correctional counseling, police consulting, crime analysis, and more. No matter where they work, they will play an integral role in protecting vulnerable individuals.
