Faulkner University’s Legal Studies Program Receives ABA Reapproval Recommendation

Faulkner University’s Legal Studies program has received reapproval from the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Standing Committee on Paralegals, affirming that the program continues to meet the standards set forth in the ABA Guidelines for the Approval of Paralegal Education Programs.

On April 1, 2025, the Standing Committee found that the program complies with the guidelines and announced it would recommend reapproval to the ABA House of Delegates during the association’s Annual Meeting in August.

Faulkner’s Legal Studies program, housed on the university’s Montgomery campus, prepares graduates to work as paraprofessionals, assisting attorneys and legal specialists in a variety of legal settings. The program’s ABA approval ensures that students receive a high-quality education aligned with industry expectations.

Students in the program may pursue either an Associate of Science in Legal Studies or a Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies. Upon graduation, they receive both their degree and an ABA-approved paralegal certificate.

In addition to preparing students for careers in the legal field, the program also serves as a strong foundation for those planning to apply to law school.

The ABA reapproval reflects Faulkner’s continued commitment to excellence in legal education and professional development.

The Legal Studies program at Faulkner University is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of both substantive and procedural law. The curriculum prepares students to apply non-complex legal concepts to real-world scenarios, compose basic legal arguments, and produce essential legal documents such as pleadings, contracts, discovery materials, briefs, motions, settlement and closing forms, and wills.

Students also develop the ability to conduct foundational legal research using both primary and secondary sources, validate their findings, and cite appropriately using Bluebook format. Emphasis is placed on using accurate legal terminology in both written and oral communication.

The program also prioritizes personal and professional ethics, ensuring that students understand and apply appropriate workplace behavior expected in law offices and other legal environments. In addition, students are equipped with the interpersonal skills necessary for professional success.

Graduates leave the program with a clear understanding of the paralegal profession, the skills required to succeed, and the variety of career opportunities available in private practice, government agencies, and corporate legal departments.
