Devoski Boyd, a Faulkner University Executive MBA graduate, traces his entrepreneurial roots to his great-grandfather, who became the first licensed African American plumber in North Carolina in the 1960s. Boyd’s business, Boyd’s Property Solutions, specializes in residential property remodeling, commercial build-outs, and government contracting. Boyd works closely with both private and government clients, focusing on solutions that enhance quality and efficiency.

Boyd chose Faulkner’s MBA program because of its flexibility. The fully online format allowed him to grow his business while pursuing his education. “With the demands of my business and work life, I wanted a program that would allow me to balance both,” Boyd said. Faulkner’s curriculum prepared him to manage operations, client relationships, and ensure project execution.

“My goal is to become the best business leader I can be—one who leads effectively while thinking strategically and creatively to solve complex problems,” he added. He believes an MBA provides the knowledge, skills, and network necessary to drive meaningful change in his industry.

Boyd credits Faulkner’s MBA program for enhancing his financial management, leadership, and market positioning skills, which have been crucial to his business’s growth. He also values the networking opportunities the program provided, connecting him with like-minded professionals who have supported his entrepreneurial journey. The program’s emphasis on critical thinking has helped Boyd stay informed on economic trends and make better business decisions in real time.

Looking ahead, Boyd aspires to become a real estate developer and philanthropist, driven by his passion for economic development. His background in political science sparked an interest in how policies impact communities and businesses. Through sustainable development projects, he aims to create lasting value, saying, “I want to build thriving communities where people can learn, grow, and achieve financial independence right in their own neighborhoods.”

Boyd acknowledges the inevitable challenges of entrepreneurship but encourages others to persevere. “Victory often comes after many setbacks. If you give up too soon, you may never reach it, or truly appreciate it when you do,” he said. Reflecting on Philippians 4:11-13, Boyd finds strength and contentment, trusting that with faith and perseverance, he can overcome any obstacle.
