Billy Camp shares how Faulkner prepared him for a life of ministry

Billy Seth CampBilly Camp, a 2012 graduate, came to Faulkner University knowing he wanted to study Bible. His years at Faulkner bolstered that desire and put him on the path of ministry and teaching other Bible students. He recently spoke at the annual Marketplace Faith Forums to share how Faulkner prepared him for that journey.

When Billy came to Faulkner, he initially majored in Biblical text, but was encouraged by his professors to switch degrees and graduated with a degree in Biblical languages.

In 2011, while he was ending his sophomore year, Billy was hired as the college minister at Dalraida Church of Christ. He graduated in 2012 and began his Master’s degree in New Testament studies the next year at Faulkner.

Under the tutelage of Dr. Don Myers, Billy was given the opportunity to teach Life of Christ in the undergraduate program and has since been teaching that class and The Book of Acts class as an adjunct teacher for Faulkner.

“It was an incredible opportunity to take my training and apply it back into the program,” he said. “I have had the chance to learn under some amazing professors at Faulkner. Many of them have become my closest friends. They invested in me personally. It was the casual conversations over coffee or lunch or staying late after class that allowed me to pick their brains, be encouraged by them, or listen to their wisdom.

“When I was struggling with my faith as a college student, when my family was in need, when I had a difficult decision in my ministry, or a host of other problems my professors, my friends, were there for me. When a teacher substitutes the classroom for a coffee shop or a lectern for moment of prayer, that is when teaching God’s word becomes reality. They taught me that the work of a minister is more than educating, it is investing and equipping so that we can see God together one day.”

Billy graduated with his Master’s in 2016 and he is pursuing his doctorate in Theology and Apologetics from Liberty University. He lives with his family in Montgomery and continues to serve the Dalraida Church of Christ.
