Accounting graduate finds friends, family and foundation at Faulkner

When Tyler Dunaway came to Faulkner University to study accounting, he thought he’d stay for two years before transferring to another school. However, once he came to campus and met the people, he decided to stay and eventually graduated after four years.

Not only is Faulkner where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 2009, Faulkner is where he met his wife, Leanne Galloway Dunaway, who also graduated in 2009. They married a year later and now have two children, Bryce and Elyse.

He recently returned to Faulkner where he was honored as the Young Alumnus of the Year by the Harris College of Business.

“I fell in love with Faulkner after one semester on campus and couldn’t imagine going anywhere else,” Dunaway said. “Faulkner gave me some of the best friends in my life.  In addition, they had the expertise to instill a solid foundation for my future career in accounting.  I attended the University of Alabama for my master’s program and found the coursework to be very manageable thanks to the time I spent with a fantastic faculty and staff at Faulkner.”

He received his master’s degree in accounting from the University of Alabama in 2011.

Dunaway began his accounting career as a CPA with Deloitte’s Atlanta office in 2011, but the bulk of his career has been spent with Carr, Riggs and Ingram in Enterprise where he is currently a manager.

“The faculty and staff at Faulkner helped prepare me tremendously by caring about me inside and outside of the classroom.  They taught me that being a Christian is something that can and should be displayed in every aspect of your life,” he said.

His work primarily focuses on financial statement audits for governmental and non-profits. He is also a part owner of an event rental company and a fitness center in Enterprise, Alabama.

In addition to his work, Dunaway is a member of the College Avenue Church of Christ in Enterprise, Alabama, where he serves as a deacon and serves as the Vice President of Wiregrass Christian Youth Camp in Chancellor, Alabama.
