The study of social sciences delves into the cultures, behaviors and ideas of mankind. At Faulkner, the social science coursework is taught through the lens of Christianity. Small classes encourage a comfortable atmosphere where lively discussion and debate is the norm. Our students engage in internships with local governmental and non-profit agencies and state and county archive departments, guided field trips and activity-based research for a broad experience under the advisement of caring professors.
Graduates from our department have gone on to successful careers in government service, library and archive management, teaching and a wide variety of research programs. We boast an 80 percent acceptance rate among those who have applied for graduate schools and law school. Thanks to one-on-one attention and real-life work experience, the Faulkner social science student is a versatile thinker and worker with the ability to make connections between people, things and ideas.

Pre-Law
The B.S. in Social Sciences is an excellent degree choice, with its flexible course options, to prepare students for further studies in Law. Students learn skills designed to promote an ethical, social and environmental conscience in addition to strengthening one’s potential for becoming a successful law school student. Students may choose additional elective options to further support their particular area of legal interest, or to improve analytical thought or other skills helpful for admission to law schools.
Admission to law schools generally requires acceptable scores on the LSAT. Additionally, the American Bar Association recommends the following “Core Skills, Values, Knowledge, and Experience”1:

In recent years, many of our graduates have successfully completed law schools throughout the Southeast, including at Samford University, the University of Alabama, and Jones School of Law.
Additional elective course options which may be helpful for preparation for law school include courses in logic, writing, communication, and additional research skills. Faulkner’s ABA approved Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies with electives in the Social Sciences is also an excellent degree choice to prepare for law school.
