Dr. Heath Willingham completed his Ph.D. in 2007 from Auburn University in counselor education and supervision. He has a master’s degree in community counseling from the University of South Alabama, which he completed in 2003 and a master’s in Biblical studies, which he earned from Lipscomb University in 1999. He is also a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Alabama.
Willingham is the chair of Graduate Counseling Programs and Director of the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program. Before beginning work for Faulkner University in 2007, he worked for the East Alabama Mental Health Center in Opelika, Alabama, Mobile AIDS Support Services in Mobile, Alabama, and at the University of South Alabama Career Services Center, also in Mobile. Prior to this, he was campus minister at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas.
Willingham is married to Shanna Leigh Cates and they have two daughters, Sophia and Sara. His research interests include student retention in higher education, existential therapy and the application of psychological type.
