Dr. Cindy Walker is the director of Interdisciplinary Studies and a professor of English. She teaches composition classes at the freshman and junior/senior levels, along with teaching interdisciplinary studies courses. She serves as advisor and coach for all interdisciplinary studies majors, working with each one to create a specialized degree plan that will allow the student to create a global degree in preparation for their future endeavors.
In addition, Dr. Walker is the Faculty Athletic Representative and works with student-athletes and coaches on issues regarding eligibility, college success and professional recruiting.
She holds a bachelor’s from Faulkner University in English, a masters in Elementary Education from East Texas State University, and a Ph.D. from Texas A&M Commerce in Rhetoric and Composition with minors in American and British Literature. She has worked for Bassmaster magazine, served as editor of The Kaufman Herald, and worked as an editorial assistant/reviewer on numerous publications including Post Scripts: Essays in Film and the Humanities and the Basic Writing Annual Bibliography.
Her current research deals with student engagement and classroom success across the curriculum.
“I graduated from Faulkner University in 1984 and returned as an assistant professor in 1996. I love the classroom setting and the daily interaction with students. I have the opportunity to engage with students through numerous venues as I walk them through their educational goals. Seeing the students succeed and knowing that I was a small part of that success provides me with a sense of accomplishment. And, the fact that I can influence these students in their walk with Christ allows me to be a small part of Christ’s mission for me.”
