Program Objectives

The objectives of the Interdisciplinary Studies degree program are wide-reaching. The intent is to broaden the intellectual capacity and critical thinking skills of the student. By studying two or three disciplines and developing creative new concepts, students are encouraged to problem solve and make important contributions to human understanding. The program’s goals are outlined below:

Solve problems in professional settings with creativity and mental discipline through the study and integration of ideas from multiple disciplines.
Apply critical thinking skills to any situation, across multiple disciplines, through experiment, research, and investigation.
Appreciate beliefs, cultures, and perspectives other than the student’s own, as expressed by individuals or groups.
Communicate appropriately in professional, cultural, and social contexts through multiple means of expression.

Faulkner offers Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS) degree paths to both traditional students and to adult students.

Admission Requirements

Must be a high school graduate with a regular or advanced diploma or have a GED certificate
If out of high school for less than five years, ACT (minimum 18 composite) or SAT (minimum 970) scores are required. ACT or SAT scores are not required for anyone having graduated high school more than five years ago.
ACT or SAT scores are not required for transfer applicants with a minimum of 24 transferable hours from a regionally accredited college or university.

What is Rolling Admissions?

The program evaluates PTCAS verified applications from June 15th until May 1st. This means that we conduct interviews both in the fall and spring semesters. Rather than admitting applicants all at once, we make admission decisions throughout the year.
