Earn Your Pre-OT Degree
Occupational therapy (OT) is the field of therapy that focuses on helping people recover from an illness or injury or manage a disability. As an occupational therapist, you may teach skills, assist with daily tasks, or show patients how to use leg braces, wheelchairs, and other aids. In doing so, you help patients improve their independence and quality of life.
The Faulkner University pre-OT program is designed for students who intend to pursue occupational therapy as their career. It was designed following a thorough review of graduate program entrance requirements, ensuring that students are ready for their graduate school of choice. After completing our degree program, students will be prepared to:
- Review medical histories and interview clients about their symptoms
- Evaluate clients’ conditions through physical exams and observation
- Discuss patient goals and develop a treatment plan to reach them
- Help patients relearn how to perform daily tasks, such as getting dressed
- Demonstrate exercises that relieve pain or rebuild strength and mobility
- Evaluate a patient’s home, school, or workplace for safety hazards
- Suggest ways to improve accessibility around the home and workplace
- Recommend and demonstrate assistive equipment, such as mobility and eating aids
- Educate family members on proper care and accommodations
- Assess and record patient progress for evaluations and billing
The Health and Rehabilitation Psychology with Pre-OT program provides a higher level of math and science to meet graduate program entrance requirements. In addition, students will complete a focused internship under a licensed occupational therapist. Students who do not plan to pursue occupational therapy may instead choose the standard Health and Rehabilitation Psychology degree track.
