History comes alive and can be seen and felt when you travel in Great Britain. Nathan Lindsay, a senior history major from Madison, Ala., was part of Faulkner’s first Study Abroad Program to London under the leadership of Drs. Ed and Dixie Hicks. Nathan states, “Going to Great Britain enhanced my studies because I didn't have to solely use a textbook and my imagination to learn what happened in English history. I got to go to castles, museums, and battlefields where historic events actually happened. It was so much easier learning the history when I was there to experience it first hand.” He notes that students of history very seldom get to see where events happened, even in their own city or country. “But I got the unique experience of traveling thousands of miles away to experience history. Being in a foreign country and having to adapt to European culture is unique in itself.”
Nathan came to Faulkner “because of the Christian atmosphere and the one-on-one attention you get from your professors. Here my professors genuinely care about me.” His involvement in the Study Abroad Program was appropriate: “I fit into the program perfectly because I enjoy history, and didn't mind spending a month overseas with the Hicks’, who are incredibly knowledgeable. I've learned so much from being around them.”
