Faulkner's Hilde wins Badger Invitational

MOBILE – Faulkner sophomore Erik Hilde fired the lowest round of the day Tuesday to capture individual honors in the Badger Invitational here at the Spring Hill Golf Course.
Hilde posted a final-round 72 for a 36-hole total of 150. The Eagles finished fourth in the 13-team event with a score 636. Spring Hill’s 617 was two shots better the runner-up Mobile. Lindenwood was third with a 626.
Faulkner’s Jeff Stashuk fired a pair of 78s for a 156 total.
Faulkner’s men’s and women’s teams compete this weekend in the Embry-Riddle Eagle Invitational in Daytona Beach, Fla.

After closing day one just two strokes out of second place at the Wynlakes Wynter Nationals yesterday, the Eagles finished sixth in the 13-team tournament this afternoon. Huntingdon College, which hosted the event, held on to the number one spot both days to take top honors.

Faulkner shot a team score 318 in the second round, up from 305 on day one. Jeff Stashuk, who was tied for ninth place with teammate Erik Hilde entering today, shot a 78, up three strokes from yesterday’s 75. The score was good enough for 15th place overall and was the best score the Eagles produced this afternoon.

Hilde slipped six strokes to an 81 this afternoon and tied for 20th in the field with teammate David Oldham. Oldham shot a 78 both days.
While Faulkner’s A team faltered slightly on day two, the B group finished 10th overall and was among the most consistent teams in the field. Two players, Chris Gamble and Brendon Glass, shot back-to-back rounds of 82, while their teammates bettered themselves in the final round. Lee Prutka, Mitch Whately and Ryan Myers each knocked a stroke of their opening round scores and were the only Eagles to improve on day two.

The team will enter the Faulkner State Community College Spring Invitational beginning March 1 at the Rock Creek Golf Course in Fairhope, Ala.
Eagles finish third on day one at Wynter Nationals

Faulkner's men's golf team had an excellent start at the annual Wynlakes Wynter Nationals at hosted by Huntingdon College. The Eagles are in third place in the 13-team tournament after one round of play and just two strokes out of second.
Hundingdon leads the field after day one with a team score of 290. Meridian Community College holds the second position with a 303 followed by Faulkner with a 305.
Faulkner's Erik Hilde and Jeff Stashuk are currently tied for ninth place after shooting 75s in the opening round. Daniel Berry is tied for 15th just two strokes back at 77 and David Oldham is tied for 19th with a 78.
The Eagles will look to improve on their position in the final round tomorrow.
Propst chooses Faulkner

Bryan Propst from Atascocita High School in Humble, Texas, has signed with Faulkner's men's golf team.
Propst has ranked in the top three on his high school team all four years. He placed third in the HGA-Jr Golf Individual at West Fork in June of 2008 and followed with a first place finish at the same event at Black Hourse in July.
Propst will enter as a freshman in the fall of 2010.
ACA's Godwin signs with Faulkner

Alabama Christian Academy's Grandon Godwin recently signed with the men's golf team at Faulkner University. The senior has played golf at ACA since the nineth grade and finished third in the high school sectional tournament last year.
Godwin will begin playing at Faulkner as a freshman next fall.

The Faulkner University men’s golf program traveled south to participate in the University of Mobile’s annual Fall Classic at the Heron Lakes Country Club. The Eagles finished in the middle of the pack taking sixth place in the 12-team tournament. The highlight of the event for Faulkner, however, was Jeff Stashuk’s second place finish in the pool of 64 athletes.
Stashuk shot a 73 and 72 respectively in the opening day’s 36 holes and posted a 75 in the final round. The Eagles shot 928 overall with rounds of 317, 304 and 307.
The Classic was Faulkner’s final golf outing of the semester. The men will kick off their spring schedule in February in the Outback Steakhouse Intercollegiate tournament in Panama City Beach, Florida. The event is scheduled for February 1-2 at the Hombre Golf Club.

BIRMINGHAM – Faulkner’s Erik Hilde fired a final round 76 here Tuesday to finish in second place in the Birmingham Southern Fall Shootout at Oxmoor Valley.

The Eagles struggled as a team during the final round, posting a 329 en route to a ninth-place showing in the 14-team, 54-hole event. Huntingdon College won the tournament, edging Birmingham Southern.
Faulkner will next compete in the Indian Bayou Collegiate Classic in Florence.

The Faulkner University men and women's golf programs opened their fall season on Monday morning with the Alabama State University Fall Classic at the Lagoon Park Golf Course. The men set a solid pace in the opening round and were tied for second heading into day two. They went on to secure third place in the event setting a school record in the process.

Jeff Stashuk led the team with rounds of 73 and 72 and was one of five medalists in the competition. Erik Hilde and David Oldham both shot 149 in the tournament. Daniel Berry followed with a 150. In all the team shot a 588, shattering the previous school record for any event which stood at 604.
The men's second team also did well, finishing sixth and shooting a combined score of 612.
The Eagles will return to action on Sept. 28 at the Birmingham Southern Fall Shootout at the Robert Trent Jones Course in Oxmoor Valley. Birmingham Southern took first place in the ASU Fall Classic just seven strokes ahead of the Eagles.

The Faulkner men's golf team is in second place and the women's team is in fourth place after Monday's first round of the Alabama State University Fall Classic tournament at Lagoon Park. The 36-hole tournament concludes Tuesday.
The Eagles shot a 293 and are tied with Mobile and Spring Hill, three shots behind Birmingham Southern. Faulkner's David Oldham led the way with a 1-under-par 71 and was one of only four golfers to break par on the day. Jeff Stashuk shot a 73 for Faulkner, while Erik Hilde added a 74 and Matthew McLeod carded a 75.
The Faulkner women's team, in its first season of intercollegiate competition, was paced by the play of Serina Bourassa, Shannon Robertson and Creseida Greene.

Joshua Seale is a freshman from Pretoria, South Africa. His freshman year at Olympia High School in Orlando, Florida, he placed fifth in the state tournament with scores of 72 and 73.
His sophomore season he won the district title at Douglas High School in Boca Rotan, Florida. His Junior season at Douglas, he finished second in the district with a score of 69 and took top honors in the Orlando Area Gibbons Golf Tournament with a 68. He finished third in the region in both his sophomore and junior seasons.
He returned to his home in South Africa his senior year.

David Oldham signs with Faulkner University

David Oldham will join the Faulkner men's golf team this fall. He will enter as a junior, having most recently played for Frank Phillips Junior College in Borger, Texas.
Oldham has been playing for the league champion gentleman's team at the Hamilton Golf Club in Scotland. This summer he won the Youth Lanarkshire County Championship, the Scratch Cup and came in third in the County Strokeplay Championship. He also earned numerous medals throughout the season.
Oldham also qualified for the Scottish Amatuer that is scheduled to begin July 28.

Jeff Stashuk, a transfer from Frank Phillips College in Borger, Texas, will join the men's golf team this fall.
Stashuk placed first in the Coaches Classic at Canadian University's Men's Junior Tournament. In May of this year he tied for 45th place in the National Junior College Athletic Association's Division I National Championship.
Stashuk was voted the MVP of his high school team his senior year.

Cameron Paulk signs with Faulkner

Cameron Paulk, a transfer from Faulkner State Junior College, became the newest addition to the men's 2009 roster this week. He has been at the top of Faulkner State's team and will transition those skills to the Eagle's team this fall.
Paulk recently posted a 70 at the Spring Hill Tournament and shot a 71 in the Mississippi Gulf Coast Tournament.
Paulk graduated from Fairhope High School.
Cleveland's Washburn signs with Faulkner

Trey Washburn, a graduate of Cleveland High School in Cleveland, Alabama, signed with Faulkner's men's golf team this afternoon.
Washburn was the team MVP all four years in high school and was named first team all-sectional his senior year at the Cullman Municipal Golf Course. Last year Washburn won the Cleveland Athletic Booster Club tournament. He also lettered four years was a middle linebacker for the varsity football team.

Sophomore Truls Erik Hilde recently signed with the men's golf team at Faulkner. Hilde is a native of Norway and a transfer from Dodge City Junior College in Dodge City, Kansas. He most recently finished playing in the Junior College Division I National Championship where he tied for 66 overall.

The Faulkner men's golf team is set to have a strong roster for the 2009-2010 season as yet another local talent joins the program. Sophomore Jacob Mainor will enter the program this fall after spending his freshman year at Southern Union Junior College.
Mainor is a product of the Stanhope Elmore High School golf program and graduated in 2008.

Prattville High School’s Chris Gamble and Sheffield High School’s Shawn Pickens recently signed golf scholarships to play at Faulkner University, Eagles’ golf coach Brent Barker announced.

Brendon Glass signs with Faulkner's golf team

Brendon Glass, currently a freshman at Gulf Coast Community College in Panama City, Fla., recently signed with Faulkner University's men's golf program for the 2009 season.
Glass is a graduate of Crawford Mosley High School in Lynn Haven, Fla. There he was a member of the Dolphin golf team for two years. In 2006, the program finished in the Top 10 at the region and district levels and was first in the county.
During his senior year the Dolphins finished ninth in the state after taking top honors at the county, district and region levels.
Glass is a member of the Hombre Golf Course in Panama City Beach and has played on the Southeastern Junior Golf Tour.
He will enter Faulkner as a sophomore in the fall and will continue to pursue his degree in Biology
Eagles turn the tide in Union Invitational
April 13
After a series of struggles on the course this season, Faulkner entered the Union University Invitational looking to turn things around. The event was held at the Jack Nicklaus Signature Course in Clifton, Tenn., and was the perfect venue to make their mark. After finishing in the top spot on the opening day, the Eagles faltered a bit in the second round and finished third overall.
The Eagles led the field of nine teams with a first day score of 322. Conditions were less than pristine as play was postponed for two hours due to heavy rains. When the weather cleared the Eagles got to work and were led by Daniel Berry and Morgan Driskell with rounds of 77 and 78 respectively. Both golfers took home all-tournament honors for the Eagles.

Faulkner improved its score on day two finishing with a team total of 317. Lambuth University and Tennessee - Martin also improved their scores in the second round, however. Lambuth took home the top honor with at team score of 632. Tennessee - Martin held on to second with a 638. Faulkner finished third with a 639, just a stroke out of second place.
Faulkner will compete in the Southern States Athletic Conference tournament on April 27-28 in Acworth, Ga. The winner of that event will qualify for nationals.
Eagles compete in North Alabama Spring Classic
April 3
Faulkner's golf team traveled to Florence, Ala., during the final weekend in March to take part in the University of North Alabama's Spring Classic. The even was held at the Robert Trent Jones Course and included 24 teams. The Eagles' total score earned them the 23rd position overall.
Senior Morgan Driskell once again led the Eagles with scores of 81 and 80 in the two-day tournament. Faulkner's team score for the event was 682.
Head coach Ed Donahoo commented on the challenging conditions the group faced. “This was probably the most difficult course we've played and certainly the longest.” He added, “The weather on the second day, with rain, cool temperatures and windy conditions made the course even more problematic.”
North Alabama won the tournament with a two-stroke victory over Washburn University. The Lion's total score was 597.
The Eagles travel to Clifton, Tenn., on April 8 and 9 for a tournament hosted by Union University. The event will be held at the Ross Creek Landing Golf Club.
Eagles struggle in Rome
March 15
Faulkner entered the Rome - News Tribunal Invitational in Rome, Ga., looking to improve its spring performance. The Eagles have struggled since the break, finishing among the lower ranks at their first two events this semester. Although highlights came from Morgan Driskell and Josh Sutton, Faulkner was unable to turn the tide. The birds finished 20th in the 21-team competition.
Driskell produced scores of 72 and 76, while Sutton put forth his best competitive round ever with a 74. With 118 golfers on the field, however, the highlights weren't enough to elevate the team to a higher seed.
The Eagles finished with a combined two-day score of 640. Berry College who hosted the event finished with a 587 for top honors. The Vikings inched out runner up LaGrange College by a single shot.
Faulkner will travel to Florence, Ala., to participate in a tournament hosted by the University of North Alabama on March 30. The contest will take place at the Robert Trent Jones course.

February 25
The Eagles entered the Huntingdon Invitational over the weekend and were looking to improve on their weak performance at Panama City beach. The team finished near the bottom of the pack on day one, but improved play in round two gave the Eagles an 8th place finish in the 10-team tournament.
Faulkner struggled in the opening round, finishing with a team total of 335, good for 9th place. The frustrated group knocked off 24 strokes on day two, improving to 311. The combined rounds bumped the birds to an 8th place finish overall.
Freshman Daniel Berry led day two with a round of 74. Sophomore Josh Sutton shot a 78 and senior Morgan Driskell produced a 79. Playing as an individual, junior Tim Shrum had a tournament total of 163.
Huntingdon College won the event with a team score of 591.
The team will travel to Rome, Ga., for the Rome News - Tribune Invitational hosted by Berry College. The tournament is set for March 9 and 10.
Waltman signs with Faulkner

Justin Waltman, a transfer from Faulkner State Community College, signed a scholarship with Faulkner on February 19. The junior's golf background is extensive and successful and the institution is looking foward to this talented addition.
Waltman played on Hewitt Trussville High School's varsity team for four years and helped lead the Huskies to a 6A state final appearance his junior year. As a freshman at Faulkner State, he qualified and participated in all 10 of the team's tournaments. That same year he had a pair of Top 30 and Top 25 finishes and caped his efforts with a Top 15 appearance.
He was named team captain his sophomore year and competed in all five of the program's fall tournaments, finishing with three Top 25 and two Top 10 appearances.
"Justin is going to be a great addition to our team next fall," said head coach Ed Donahoo. "He has a lot of experience and is an excellent leader. I know he will help take us to another level."

Eagles struggle in spring opener
February 4
The Eagles launched their spring season over the weekend at the Outback Steakhouse Invitational in Panama City Beach, Florida. The team got off to a sluggish start on day one and when play failed to improve on day two, the program found itself at the bottom of the pool.
Day one was a struggle for the Eagles. A total team score of 329 left the birds in 15th place in the 16-team event. Morgan Driskell shot a 79 on the day and was the only Eagle to break 80. Driskell, normally one of the programs top performers, was battling and injured eye in addition to the course. The senior's cornea was scratched when a contact lens ruptured. Driskell was unable to play on day two.
The Eagles were looking to improve significantly in the second round, but faltered further, finishing with a score of 335. The program finished last in the competition with a combined score of 664.
First place went to Columbus State with a two-day score of 584.
Faulkner will resume play on Feb. 23 at the Wynlakes Country Club in Montgomery for the annual Huntingdon College tournament.

Lee-Scott Academy's Matthew McLeod signed a golf scholarship with Faulkner University yesterday afternoon during a special event held at the high school. McLeod's family and coaches were present for the occasion.
McLeod has led his high school to three consecutive state championships and is regarded as one of the elite golfers in the state of Alabama. His coach, Jimmy Green, commented on the young man's character and abilities both on and off the golf course as well has his dedication to academics.

"McLeod will do very well at Faulkner and will stand out as the epitome of a student-athlete," said head golf coach Ed Donahoo. "He is the kind of golfer who will help our program elevate to the next level."
McLeod will join the Faulkner roster in the fall of 2009.
Eagles finish fifth in Mobile Invitational
November 8
The Eagles traveled to Heron Lakes Country Club to compete in the University of Mobile Invitational on Moday. The Eagles finished fifth in the 11-team tournament after 36 holes on day one and held that spot through the final round.
The first 18 holes were tough for Faulkner as the team finished with a combined score of 312. The Eagles turned things around on the remaining 18 posting a score of 302. Senior Morgan Driskell led the pack the later part of the day with a 73. Freshman Josh Carroll put up his best score of the fall with a 74.

Faulkner set out on day two with a team goal, to shoot below 300. The Eagles faltered however and ended with score of 310. Morgan Driskell had another good performance on day to shooting a 74 in the second round.
Central Alabama Community College took the top spot in the Invitational followed by Mobile in second. Spring Hill College secured the third position.

On a sad note, senior Adam Easterling finished his career with the Eagles during the contest. “He has been a tremendous asset to the program,” said head coach Ed Donahoo. “He's handeled himself with class and dignity and we wish him all the best.” Easterling will graduate in December and will be getting married in May.
Faulkner will resume play in February. Tournament locations and times will be available soon.

October 23
Reinhardt College held their six-team invitational at the Cartersville Country Club in Cartersville, Ga., on Monday and Tuesday. The Eagles showed up strong in the opening round, trailing first place Reinhardt by only six strokes. Day two saw a drop in Faulkner play and the team finished the tournament in third place.

The Eagles combined for a day one score of 303. Senior Adam Easterling led the group with a score of 74. Fellow senior Morgan Driskell trailed him by only a stroke and sophomore Andy Roper finished with a 76.
Day two, however, was a different story. The team struggled to match their day one performance and finished the round with a 316.

The Eagles travel to Mobile on Nov. 2, for the final tournament of the semester. The University of Mobile is hosting a tournament at the Heron Lakes Country Club.
Poor play leaves Eagles in seventh place

October 2, 2008
The Eagles entered their second tournament of the season on September 28 at the Cross Creek Plantation Golf Club in Seneca, S.C. Conference opponent Southern Wesleyan hosted the Jack Shadwick Tournament and Faulkner entered the event with high expectations. Though the weather was ideal and the Eagles were coming off a strong win in the Alabama State University Invitational, the course proved problematic and the team finished seventh out of 12 teams.
“This was probably the toughest course we will play this fall,” said head coach Ed Donahoo. Cross Creek held the Eagles to a 627 total score, while tournament winner, Lindsey Wilson, put forth a 601.
Though the Eagles struggled as a whole, not everyone fell behind. Faulkner's Morgan Driskell had strong finishes in both rounds. Driskell shot a 77 on the opening day and followed it with an excellent score of 73 to close out the event.
Faulkner's next tournament is set for Oct. 19 in Cartersville, Ga., where they will compete in the Reinhardt College Invitational.

Faulkner University’s men’s golf team opened the 2008 season with an exceptional performance in the Alabama State University Invitational. The Eagles finished third in nine-team tournament held at Lagoon Park on Sept. 8 and 9.
Three NCAA Div. I programs participated in the event including host team Alabama State. Birmingham Southern College captured the top spot, followed by Savannah State in second.
Faulkner shot a 305 on the opening morning followed by a 299 on day two. Senior Adam Easterling shot a two under 70 to lead the team on the second day and finished with the program’s lowest combined score for the event. Daniel Berry and Josh Carroll, both playing in their first collegiate tournament, played well. Berry led the team with a 75 in the opening round.
"It’s a great way to start the year," said head golf coach Ed Donahoo. "Taking home the trophy means a great deal to our program and we’re going to try and build on this experience."
Easterling also received a trophy for finishing with a top ten performance.
Faulkner will now prepare for the 15th Annual Jack Shawick Invitational hosted by Southern Wesleyan. The event will take place at the Cross Creek Plantation Golf Club in Semeca, S.C. from Sept. 28-30.

Faulkner University has signed Josh Carroll of Montgomery to a golf scholarship. Faulkner coach Ed Donahoo met with Corroll, who was accompanied by his parents – Jody and Janet – and sisters – Hannah and Bethany – for the signing this afternoon at the university.

Donahoo, a former ACA coach, has known Carroll since he was young and has watched him play recently at Arrowhead Country Club, which is Faulkner's home course.
Carroll attended Alabama Christian Academy until his sophomore year when he made the transition to home schooling so he could devote more time to practicing golf. He has played on the Arrowhead Junior Golf Tour since 2006 and also competes in the Alabama Junior Golf Organization. Carroll won five tournaments with the AJGO in 2007 including the championship in August.
"Josh is dedicated to the game," said Donahoo. "He’s done well and has a lot of potential."

Men’s golf team finishes strong in Geico Tournament

Faulkner’s men’s golf team traveled to Savannah, Ga., for the Geico Intercollegiate Tournament hosted by Ohio Wesleyan College. The tournament ran from March 13-15 at Hunters Golf Club. Play consisted of three rounds and included 16 teams, representing 12 states, and 105 players. After a tough opening day the Eagles rebounded with the lowest score in the third round giving them an eighth place finish overall.
Day one proved exhausting for the athletes as all 105 golfers tried to complete the required 36 holes. Continuous delays plagued the tournament and the first two rounds stretched over 12 straight hours.
Faulkner finished day one with a first round score of 312 followed by a second round 317. The Eagles found themselves in 11th place heading into day two. Ryan Cantrell posted and excellent first round score of 74, catapulting him to a 10th place finish out of 105 players.
The Eagles delivered one of their best performances of the year in the final round by boasting a combined score of 296. The result was good enough for a first place finish that round and strong enough push the Eagles three spots to an eighth place finish overall.
Ryan Cantrell closed with a 72 in the final round and finished 19th out of the 105 golfers overall. Moragn Driskell fell just a stroke behind with a 73 that round and Adam Easterling closed with a 74. Mike Watts posted a score of 77.
Ohio Wesleyan won the tournament with a total score of 899. Faulkner ended with a score of 925.
Faulkner will visit the Robert Trent Jones course in Florence, Ala., on March 30 through April 1. The team will compete in the University of North Alabama Classic.

Montgomery, Ala. – Faulkner University competed in the Buffalo Wild Wings Classic from March 9-11. The tournament was hosted by the University of Montevallo and was held at the Timberline Golf Course in Calera, Ala. The Eagles struggled a bit on day one but held a strong finish in the second round and finished fourth in the six-team tournament.
The Eagles finished play on a beautiful Monday afternoon with a team score of 310 which placed them in fourth position. Ryan Cantrell led the team with a first round score of 74. The team improved on day two with a team score of 301. Cantrell lead the team once again with a par score of 72. Day two’s performance gave the team a total score of 611 and locked the Eagles into a fourth place tie. The University of West Georgia took top honors at the tournament.
Ryan Easterling had an outstanding finish as an individual in the Classic. Easterling had a first round score of 72 followed by 73 on day two. The results earned him all-tournament team honors.
Faulkner will travel to Savannah, Ga., this afternoon to compete in the prestigious Geico Tournament hosted by Ohio Wesleyan.

Faulkner University has signed Macon East Montgomery Academy's Daniel Berry to a golf scholarship.
Faulkner coach Ed Donahoo was at the AISA school earlier this week to sign Berry, who was
accompanied by his parents - Lee and Vikki - and his brother Garret at the special ceremony. A number of Macon-East students were also in attendance at the signing.

Donahoo met Berry at Arrowhead Country Club, which is Faulkner's home course. After watching him play several times with the current Eagles players, Donahoo knew he wanted him to be a part of the program.
"Daniel is a fine player and person and has the mental attributes to really be successful in our program," said Donahoo. "He is a perfect fit for Faulkner."
Cantrell leads Faulkner to second place finish

Montgomery, Ala. – Faulkner’s men’s golf team entered the Wynlakes Wynter Nationals hosted by Huntingdon College Feb. 25-26. The team boasted a strong start on day one and continued to progress through a cold and windy day two. The event held a series of highlights for the Eagles including a first place individual finish for Ryan Cantrell and a second place finish overall for the team.

The Eagles climbed into third place in the 10 team after a solid first round score of 309. Ryan Cantrell ended day one with a one over par score of 73 and Morgan Driskell and Adam Easterling each finished with a respectable 78. The highlight of day one was Morgan Driskell’s hole-in-one on the number seven, a 163 yard par three hole.

While day one held ideal conditions for the players day two was a different story. Early morning thunderstorms complete with tornado warnings drenched the course. The tournament continued as scheduled, but 15 mile per hour wind gusts and temperatures hovering in the mid to upper 40s proved troublesome for many of the athletes.

The Eagles finished the round with a score of 330 which elevated them to a second place finish, the teams highest finish of the season. Ryan Cantrell and another great round with a score of 77 and won the trophy for lowest two day score. Morgan Driskell finished round two with a score of 78. Huntingdon College finished first overall with a team score of 622.

Faulkners next competition will be the Buffalo Wild Wings Tournament at the Timberline Golf Club in Montevallo, Ala., March 9-11. The tournament will be hosted by the University of Montevallo.

Eagles open spring season

Panama City Beach, Fla. - Faulkner's men's golf team competed in the Outback Steakhouse Intercollegiate Tournament in Panama City Beach, Fla. from Feb. 3-5. The Eagles finished at No. 13 in the 16 team tournament with St. Edwards University out of Texas taking the top prize.
Faulkner started strong in the first round with a score of 302. The leaders for day one were Ryan Cantrell with a 72, Morgan Drikell with a 74 and Mike Watts and Michal Dozier who both sot a 78. Day two, however, was a different story as the Eagles struggled to match day one's results, though Michael Dozier finished with a 74. The Eagles finished the tournament with a score of 617.
This was the first tournament of the spring season for the Eagles. The next competitions will be held at the Wynlakes Country Club in Montgomery, Ala. from Feb. 24-26 and will be hosted by Huntingdon College.
Eagles finish fall play

Mobile, Ala. – The Faulkner golf team entered its final tournament of the fall with high expectations. After a respectable first day total of 303 in the Mobile Invitational, the Eagles faltered and shot a team score of 312 in the second round finishing seventh in the 10-team tournament. Host team Mobile took top honors.
Michael Watts stood out for the Eagles shooting two rounds of 75 and Shawn Mitchell continues to show promise. After shooting an 83 on day one Mitchell dropped to a 78 for the second round.
The men’s golf team will resume play in February.
Eagles place fourth at Meadow Link

Ft. Gaines, Ga. - Faulkner’s men’s golf team recently returned from the Meadows Link Course in Ft. Gaines, Ga., where they delivered its strongest performance of the year, finishing fourth in the 10-team tournament hosted by Andrews College.
Among the opponents was Dalton College from Albany, Ga., the three-time defending national junior college champions. Dalton placed two teams in the event, capturing both first and second place.
Faulkner shot a team score of 302 on the first day, paced by Ryan Cantrell’s blistering 67 which had him atop the individual leaderboard. Cantrell posted a 74 in the second round, good for a second-place finish.
The Eagles’ second-day total of a 303 left them with a 605 total. Georgia Southwestern, an NCAA Division II program, finished third.
Faulkner’s Morgan Driskell, playing as an individual, had scores of 72 and 78 for a 150 total. The Eagles’ Andy Roper had a two-day total of 153, firing a 77 and 76.
Faulkner’s next tournament will be in Mobile, Ala., on Nov. 5.
Eagles finish sixth at “Showdown”

Birmingham, Ala. – The Faulkner Golf program took part in the fifth annual Southern Showdown in the Valley on Monday and Tuesday at Oxmoor Valley on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Birmingham. The Eagles got off to a great start and finished sixth in the 10-team tournament.
The weather was ideal and the course difficult and after playing well on day one with a total team score of 307 and 314, the Eagles set in fourth place. Ryan Cantrell led the team with rounds of 72 and 77. Morgan Driskell also had a good day with rounds of 74 and 82. On day two however, the Eagles were not as fortunate and with a score of 315 fell to sixth place. Berry College was the tournament winner.
The Eagles will travel south to Lakeland, Fla. to play in the 2007 Fire Classic from Sept. 30 – Oct. 2. The six man team will consist of Ryan Cantrell, Morgan Driskell, Adam Easterling, Lee Prucka and Michael Dozier with Andy Roper playing as an individual.
