Faulkner opens inaugural season with fourth place finish

Faulkner's women's golf program kicked off its inaugural season with the Alabama State University Fall Classic on Monday morning. Junior transfer Shannon Robertson led the Eagles with a total score of 176. The Arizona native was a medalist in the competition with a Top 10 finish. Freshman Serina Bourassa finished just a stroke back with a combined score of 177.

The Eagles will compete in the Birmingham Southern College Southern Shootout at the Highland Park Golf Course on Sept. 27.

 

 

Clark welcomed to new program

Faulkner University signed its fifth golfer to the new women's program on Wednesday afternoon. Kandyce Clark from George County High School in Lucedale, Mississippi, commited to joining the team in its inaugural season.

Clark played golf on the varsity team all four years and served as its captain her senior year. Clark qualified for the state tournament all four years and was an individual medalist in three tournaments in her final season.

Serina Bourassa, a product of Kingwood Christian School in Alabaster, Alabama, recently signed with Faulkner's women's golf team. Bourassa was a six-sport athlete during her high school career and earned numerous all-tournament and MVP honors on various teams. 

During her senior year she was named captain of the volleyball team and helped lead the Lions to an AISA 3A state championship. Bourassa was selected to the all-tournament and AISA all-star teams, was all-state honorable mention and was voted the team MVP.

Last year Bourassa was named the Most Improved Golfer at Kingwood and was voted the 2009 AISA Athlete of the Year.

 

Robertson becomes third member of women's team

Shannon Robertson became the third member of the new women's golf team at Faulkner University this afternoon. The all-conference transfer from South Mountain Community College in Phoenix, Arizona, will prove a valuable asset this inaugural season.

Last year she served as the team captain for the Cougars and as an individual placed 11th in the region. Robertson also finished sixth in the first flight of the Phoenix City Championship.

Prior to attending South Mountain, Robertson played golf at Paradise Valley Community College in Phoenix and qualified for the National Junior College Athletic Association Tournament.

Robertson graduated from St. Mary's High School where she earned two varsity letters and qualified for the state tournament both years. She had a second place finish in the first flight of the Antigua Junior Tournament and was invited to participate in the Ping Junior match.

 

 

Jordan signs with women's golf team

Guntersville High School's Chelsea Jordan signs with Faulkner University's women's golf team. Jordan is the second athlete to join the newly announced program set to begin this fall.

 

Greene becomes first signee for new women’s golf program

Creseida Greene becomes the first women's golfer at Faulkner

Creseida Greene, the No. 1 player on her Hendrickson High School team in Pflugerville, Texas, has become the first signee for the new women’s golf program at Faulkner University. Head coach Brent Barker welcomed the family to the Montgomery campus last week, and Greene signed her scholarship with her proud parents standing by.

 “Creseida can really smash the golf ball,’’ Barker said. “She and her family really enjoyed their visit, and they had been looking for a smaller Christian school. This was a perfect fit.’’

 The Eagles will begin competing in women’s golf in the 2009-2010 season.

Faulkner announces addition of women's golf

Faulkner University Athletics Director Brent Barker announced today that the Eagles will field a women's golf team beginning in 2009-2010.

The Eagles just completed its fourth season of men's golf and Barker looks forward to recruiting women golfers to the university.

"Having already spent some time this spring at some high school tournaments, I am well aware of the many talented golfers out there," Barker said.

"We are working extremely hard at bringing in quality student-athletes, and we expect to be competitive immediately."

The Eagles will compete in the NAIA's Southern States Athletics Conference, just as the men's team does.

Barker will serve as both the men's and women's head coach.
