Brent Barker

     Brent Barker just completed his ninth year at Faulkner University and his fourth year as the Eagles’ athletics director. While at Faulkner Barker has been instrumental in the development of several new sports programs including golf, football and junior varsity volleyball. He played a key role in the fundraising efforts for the startup of the Faulkner football program and for the construction of the Freeman-Harrison Student Multiplex.

     As well as serving as athletic director, Barker will resume the duties as head golf coach for the 2009-2010 season. He also coached the golf team earlier in his Faulkner tenure. For seven years, Barker led the Eagles’ baseball program. In addition to guiding the Eagles’ varsity to unprecedented success, he also started Faulkner’s extremely popular junior varsity program. He lead the Eagles to the 2001 National Christian College World Series championship. As Faulkner’s head baseball coach he earned seven major coaching awards, including three consecutive honors as the Alabama High School Coaches Association Small College Coach of the Year and the 2001 NCCAA Coach of the Year. His collegiate coaching record is 279-177, with an average of 40 wins a season.

     Barker played collegiate baseball at Texas Christian University and coached there a year before beginning his high school coaching career in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Prior to his arrival at Faulkner Barker was the athletics director and head football and baseball coach at Southwest Christian School in Fort Worth, Texas. He also officiated college basketball for 20 years throughout Texas, and has rejuvenated that interest in Alabama, where he officiates high school games. He has been married to his wife, Belinda, for 21 years and they have two daughters, Brooke, age 19, and Bridget age 16.
