Faulkner announces 2009 basketball recruiting class

Faulkner head basketball coach Jim Sanderson and assistant coach Sam Allen recently announced his 2009 recruiting class, which consists of three high school players and three junior college transfers.

“We’re pleased and excited with this year’s group,’’ Sanderson said. “We think each of them will fit nicely into what we’re doing on the court, and into the Faulkner family off the court.’’

Here are the new players’ bios:

Jamarious Alderson   6’3 * 190 lbs * Wing    Northeast HS  (Clarkesville, TN)

Jamarious was a three-year starter and 1,000-point scorer at Northeast High School in Clarkesville, Tenn. Alderson was a pivotal player his senior season in leading his team to the Final Four in the state of Tennessee.  He led the team in scoring at 16 points per game, while also averaging  five rebounds, and two assists. He was named the Player of the Year for the Clarkesville area. Northeast set a school record for wins with a 27-7 record.

His high school coach, Al Cooper, says “Jamarious is one of the hardest working and talented kids to come through Northeast’s basketball program. He was very instrumental in our run to the state tournament.”

Faulkner coach Jim Sanderson says “Jamarious comes from a program that has really taught him the fundamental parts of the game really well that might enable him to step in and get minutes as a freshman. He needs to improve his range to be more complete but has well-rounded skills in most areas of the game.”

Andrew Boland    6’5 * 215 lbs * Forward      Indian River CC  (Ft. Lauderdale, FL)

Boland attended Indian River Community College the past two years where he was a part of a program that won 46 games during that two-year span. As a sophomore, Boland averaged 12 points and eight rebounds per game while shooting an impressive 55 percent from the field, and 34 percent from the three-point line. He was an all-conference player in the tough and competitive Florida Junior College league.

Indian River head coach Mike Leatherwood notes of Andrew, “He is a very intense competitor who plays very hard. He has really improved his shooting in his two years, and can really rebound the ball. He is a very athletic kid who can score inside and outside”

Faulkner coach Jim Sanderson says “Andrew is a very explosive player that has the ability to put up good numbers. He must be consistent in his effort in order to be the impact player that he could be. His attention to detail will be crucial for determining his success.”

Birama Konate   6’8 * 225 lbs * Post  Central Park Christian / Delaware Tech  (Mali, Africa)

Konate spent the past season at Delaware Tech on a medical redshirt after suffering a knee injury after high school. As a senior at Central Park Christian in Birmingham, Birama averaged 14 points, nine rebounds, and three blocks a game. He helped lead his team to an undefeated record of 26-0.

Coach Parker of Central Park says “Birama is a team guy whose motor is always running. He will fill whatever role his team needs from. He is one of the most unselfish players who plays hard on both ends of the floor. He gives you his best every day.”

Faulkner coach Jim Sanderson says “Birama could bring us that presence in the paint defensively that we have not had in the past. His transition game will be the biggest obstacle for him to overcome. He really picks up on details and the little things in a very short period of time. He could really improve by leaps and bounds over the course of this year.”

George Manomano   6’2 * 175 lbs * Guard         Gainesville HS  (Gainesville, GA)

Manoamano comes to Faulkner from Gainesville High School where he was a senior captain and most valuable player. He helped lead his team to the 3-A Final Four. Along the way, he averaged 17 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals per game, while earning second team all-state and region player of the year honors. He also eclipsed 1,000 points for his career.

Gainesville High school Coach Todd Cottrell says of George, “He is an outstanding young man who exhibits a lot of character on and off the court. He will be an outstanding basketball player who should have a successful college career. He will be even more successful with his life after college.”

Faulkner coach Jim Sanderson says “George is a young man that can score in a variety of ways.  He must improve his on and off the ball defense and become physically stronger. He has a good winning demeanor about himself.”

Camille Ngon a’ ngon   6’3 * 200 lbs * Forward      Roane State CC (Cameroon, Africa)

Camille played the last two years at Roane State Community College in Tennessee for head coach Randy Nesbitt. Ngon a’ ngon was a combo forward for the Raiders. During his sophomore season, he finished in the top 11 of all Tennessee junior colleges in rebounding and steals with averages of seven rebounds and two steals per game, respectively, while also averaging nine points per game.

Roane State head coach Randy Nesbitt believes, “Each six months while here, he showed a big jump in his basketball skills, which means his best days are ahead of him. He is a terrific competitor with a warrior attitude.”

Coach Sanderson: “Camille is a very high-energy player that could really help us on the defensive end and rebounding the basketball. He could be a guy that does a lot of the little things that don’t show up on the stat sheet. He seems to possess a certain maturity about him that could enable him to be a leader.”

Langston Williams    5’11 * 170 lbs * Guard       Marion Military   (Atlanta, GA)

Langston averaged 12 points, four assists  and four rebounds per game for Marion Military. He played both guard positions, splitting time at the point and at two guard.

Marion Military head coach Marcus Thomas says, “Langston is a very humble kid who works hard. He is a stand-up guy who is a good leader. As a freshman, he possessed some strong leadership abilities. He has a good I.Q. for the game with a nice one- and two-dribble pull-up game.”

Faulkner coach Jim Sanderson says “Langston should log some very valuable point guard minutes with his ability to hit the open shot and getting to the paint which creates shots for others. He must get mentally and physically stronger in order for his team to receive the full benefit of him as a player.

Bojan Milosavljevic 5'11*150* lbs Guard TS Jovan Vukanovic Highschool (Novi Sad, Serbia)

Bojan comes to Faulkner from Serbia. He was the starting point guard on the Serbia National high school championship team. He played for Coach Janko Lukovski who studied under Legendary Coach Bob Knight at Indiana in the earlier 80's. This past season he averaged 23ppg, 6.7 apg, and 3 spg.

Coach Sanderson: "Bojan comes in as a late pick-up, but from all contacts and film we have gathered, he seems to have a high basketball IQ and shoots the ball real well. There is still a lot to be learned about him once he arrives on campus."
