Shep Mularz

Varsity Assistant
Shep Mularz, a former Faulkner baseball player and graduate assistant, enters his third season as an assistant for the varsity program. He will work with the team’s hitters and infielders and will serve as the third base coach.
Mularz was a graduate assistant for the Eagles from 2002-2004 and rejoined the team as an assistant in 2008. He also served as an assistant coach for Ronnie Elmore at Montgomery Academy in 2003. That season Montgomery Academy made it to the state championship series at Paterson Field.
The Montgomery native turned in a stellar two-year career as a player for Faulkner in 2000 and 2001. Mularz won several post-season awards, including a first-team selection to the 2001 all-conference team. After his junior season he was selected to the National Christian College Athletic Association’s All-American team and played a major role in the Eagles’ race to the NCCAA national championship in 2001.
He played for Sonney Vandervander at Jeff Davis High School, where he won the Sportsmanship Award in 1995 and the Gold Glove Award in 1996. Following his senior year with the Volunteers, Mularz was selected to the all-state and all-metro teams and was the all-metro Player of the Year. Before transferring to Faulkner he played for coach Rudy Abbott for two season at Jacksonville State University.
Mularz is the son of Randy and Janet Mularz and has two brothers - Scott and Sy. He is engaged to Megan Singleton.
Jacob Legg

Varsity Assistant and JV Heach Coach
Jacob Legg is entering his first season as an assistant coach at Faulkner. He will work primarily with the pitchers and will serve as the first base coach. Legg is also heading up Faulkner’s junior varsity program.
Legg was a pitcher and an outfielder under former head coach Larry Giangrosso at the University of Alabama at Birmingham for two seasons and graduated from the UAB in 2005 with a degree in Economics.
Before transferring to UAB he played for two seasons under former coach Jim Wells at the University of Alabama. While with the Crimson Tide he was a member of two Southeastern Conference tournament championship teams.
Legg is a native of Hartselle, Ala., and graduated from Hartselle High School in 2001. He played under coach William Booth for four years and was a two-time all-state pitcher.
In the offseason, Legg helps his father run the Bama Bombers, a summer high-school age team with some of the premier players in the southeast.
Legg is the son of Greg and Robin Legg, and has a brother, Micah, and sister, Alicia.
Sonny Davis

Varsity Assistant
Sonny Davis is entering his fourth season as an assistant coach for the Faulkner baseball program and served as the junior varsity team’s head coach last year.
Davis, a Montgomery native, has spent the last eight years coaching the Montgomery Force, a local high school club team. In that time the Force has won three state championships and the World Series in 2007.
He also coached high school baseball at Macon East Montgomery Academy and Taylor Road Academy. While at Taylor Road, he led the program to its first winning season.
Davis attended the University of Alabama and played football for the Crimson Tide for one year.
After suffering a career-ending injury, he returned home to complete his education at Auburn University Montgomery.
He and his wife Melinda have two children - Chase, age 17, and Blair, age 5.
Scott Claybrook

Varsity Assistant
Scott Claybrook, a former pitcher for the Faulkner baseball program, will serve as an assistant coach for both the varsity and junior varsity teams this season. Claybrook served as an assistant coach for the JV program for two years, working with pitchers and fielding. This year he will assist in recruiting and will work with hitters.
Claybrook played at Faulkner under head coach Brent Barker in 2003 and 2004. As a closing pitcher in 2003 he maintained an ERA under 3.00. He tallied 12 career saves as an Eagle and also served as an infielder.
Claybrook was a dual player under coach Gary Rundles at the University of West Alabama in 2001 and 2002.
The Tuscaloosa native played high school ball at American Christian Academy for Tim Brown and was twice named to the all-area team. Claybrook led the team in all areas of pitching and was chosen as the Most Valuable Pitcher, co-team MVP and team captain while at American Christian. He lettered all four years and helped lead the team to four consecutive area championships which resulted in berths in the state playoffs.
Claybrook is married to his wife Melanie.
