On Thurs., Dec. 3, 2009, Faulkner University alerted the Montgomery Police Department concerning information on a Faulkner University student's Facebook page that was perceived as threatening and shocking to school officials. In response to the message, Faulkner's Security Chief Chris Mulkey initiated a lockdown at the Montgomery campus. Students and employees were alerted to this status via EagleCast, the University's emergency notification system that utilizes text messages, e-mails and phone calls. All persons on campus were able to go to safe places to reduce the potential danger of the situation.
Police soon located the student in question, Zachary Lambert, age 22, of Montgomery, at his residence and he was taken into custody without incident. Lambert was transported to Police Headquarters for questioning regarding the Facebook statement. Lambert denied having any malicious intent behind his Facebook statement. However, due to the University's lockdown, disruption of school activities and public inconvenience caused by his statement, Lambert was charged with committing a Terrorist Threat. Lambert was transported to the Montgomery County Detention Facility under an excessive bond of $500,000 dollars.
Throughout the incident, no one was injured, nor was any property damaged.
Faulkner University continues to be concerned with the situation. However, the Montgomery Police Department is fully in charge of the investigation.
