Serving on a new level
John Hill, III, takes the helm as the new Board of Trustees Chairman -- by Laura Cauthen
On college campuses across America, cafeteria food often incites little enthusiasm. Not so at Faulkner University! Students rave about the food and the friendly, helpful staff in J.L. Perry Cafeteria. This praise is due to high standards of quality set by Faulkner's new Board of Trustees Chairman, John W. Hill, III, of Memphis, Tenn. Hill owns and operates Culinary Management Solutions, the family business that supplies and manages the J.L. Perry Cafeteria on the Faulkner campus. In October, Hill succeeded Dr. Jess Hall as chair of the Board of Trustees. "(Hill) is a man of genuine humility who is absolutely dedicated to this University," says President Billy D. Hilyer of the new chair. "He has been one of our stronger committee chairs and is extremely engaged with Faulkner University."
An important player in the growth of this University for nearly 20 years, Hill first had the opportunity to serve Faulkner when Hilyer enlisted his company to assist the campus in providing a high quality food service. Hill and his father, John Hill, Jr., (who also served as a Faulkner Trustee for nearly 20 years) built Culinary Management Solutions together. Major clients already included Freed-Hardeman University as well as other commercial businesses.
Eventually, a business arrangement turned into a personal conviction for Hill. His dedication to Christian education and belief that the University served as an asset to the community compelled him to accept the opportunity to serve on the Board of Trustees. "It is my desire that we encourage supporters to develop a commitment to Christian education," says Hill, "because as a Christian University we have the opportunity to yield young people with a strong moral character who will go forth and serve the community and the world."
Now in his fourteenth year on the Board, Hill takes the helm with enthusiasm. He is excited about growth the University has experienced over the last decade and is dedicated to maintaining and increasing that growth with the Board's ten-year vision plan. Hilyer expresses his enthusiasm as well. "Faulkner University is blessed to have a great Board of Trustees: men and women of strong commitment, dedication and involvement. And, we have been blessed with strong leadership at the Chair position of the Board as well," he says. "John Hill will continue to build on that strong legacy. I'm confident the University will continue to move forward under his leadership."
