Lisha May: 2008 Alumna of the Year

by Laura Cauthen
Lisha Harrison May ('81) of Mobile, Ala., was announced as the Faulkner University 2008 Alumna of the Year at the alumni homecoming luncheon in November. May was recognized for her vast volunteer work in the Mobile area and to Faulkner University.
May works with the Azalea City Church as a Lads to Leaders/Leaderettes coach, teacher, and as a cook in the church's outreach program, Monday Night for the Master. In addition, May has served the Mobile Christian School as the voluntary cheerleader sponsor for 10 years, a substitute teacher, a volunteer with the PFTA and an avid athletic boosters' club member. She is also member of the Dauphin Island Women's Club, an organization that raises money for Mobile area schools.
Since graduating from Alabama Christian College, now Faulkner University, May has remained a loyal supporter of Faulkner University in many ways, serving as an exemplary ambassador for the school by enthusiastically recruiting students to come to the University.
For the last two years, May has served as the sponsor for the Faulkner's Phi Lambda women's social club, making several trips a week from Mobile to Montgomery to help the club with various projects and functions. However May not only donates her time, finances and talents to help the girls of Phi Lambda have a great experience, she also gives the gift of herself. May is personally involved with the Faulkner students, offering spiritual guidance and help whenever needed. John Gordon, director of student services, says that he has never worked with a sponsor so personally dedicated and involved with the students as Lisha. Phi Lambda member Sarah Hughes has high praise for her sponsor as well: "She is the most unselfish person I have ever met."
May attended the homecoming luncheon and game with her husband, Steve May ('81), son Jeff May ('06), daughter-in-law Brandie Kirkland May ('06) and father Lamar Harrison. May's daughter, Ashley, is a senior at Faulkner, as well.
