John Rice Named Alumnus of the Year

John Rice of Lineville, Ala., has been named Faulkner University’s Alumnus of the Year. Rice graduated in 1972 with an Associate of Arts degree. In 1979, he established Backwoods Christian Camp, located near Lineville, Ala., where he now works as the camp’s head director. Over the past three decades, thousands of children and adults have been introduced to the Gospel and spiritually influenced through BCC.

This man of vision has great plans not only for BCC, but also for establishing other camps across the country and worldwide. He recently returned from a mission trip to start a Christian camp in Cambodia. Actions like this underscore his belief that children are the greatest mission field; his love for them is apparent to everyone.

A strong supporter of Faulkner University, Rice has often used BCC as a medium to promote Faulkner’s Christian education. He and his wife Denise have nine children, three of whom attended Faulkner, and three grandchildren.
