Eagle Soccer Improves Despite Setbacks

Though the men’s soccer team has a similar win/loss record to last year, coach Brett Mitchell is pleased with the improvements made in many areas. The team allowed 33 fewer shots on goal, took more shots than ever before, and nearly doubled the number of goals scored.

“We did a lot of smaller things right,” said Mitchell, “and that’s really going to show up even more next season.”

This year, the team took a hit as five of their starters were unable to play due to either injury or ineligibility. “It put pressure on the younger players, but they stepped up to the challenge. You can tell they worked hard by looking at the improvements in the smaller areas,” explained Mitchell.

Mitchell is already looking ahead to next season. The first recruit for the 2008 team has signed, and tryouts are scheduled for this fall rather than the spring. “After all our setbacks this year, I’m really excited to get going with next year’s training and matches.”
