Federal Aid

Applying for Federal financial aid is quick and easy! To apply, you will need to complete the FAFSA. You can do this on-line at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Remember, you will need your parent's (and your) completed tax forms in order to complete the FAFSA (for the 2013-2014 school year, you will need tax forms from 2012). You can complete the FAFSA using these tax forms before they are actually filed. The earlier the better! Be sure to enter our code when you apply - our federal code is 001003.

Before you complete the FAFSA, you will need to request a PIN (Personal Identification Number). This will allow you to sign your FAFSA electronically and correct your application later if needed.

Once you complete and submit the FAFSA, you'll receive a confirmation number. This will let you know that your application has been successfully submitted. Your application will then be processed and you will receive an e-mail with a link to your Student Aid Report (SAR).

If you entered our code (001003), we will also receive your SAR. We can then determine the amount of federal funding that you will receive! You'll get an award letter from our financial aid office which will show the funds for which you're eligible.

The FAFSA is actually an application for lots of different funding programs. Below is a listing of the grants and awards that you are applying for when you complete the FAFSA:

Pell Grant

Pell Grants range according to the financial need of the student. Grants for the 2013-2014 school year range from $100-$5500. Grants are awarded to eligible undergraduate students who do not have a bachelor's degree. Award amounts are based on the assumption of 12 eligible hours per semester.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)

FSEOG is awarded to undergraduate students who do not have a bachelor's degree and who demonstrate exceptional financial need. Award amounts vary and are determined by the availability of funds.

Federal Work-Study

Work-study funds are not credited against your tuition or fees. This award is earned by you for working a specified number of hours per week and is paid at an hourly rate. Paid monthly, work-study earnings are available to assist with the cost of books, supplies, and personal expenses. A separate application for this program must be completed. Applications are available in the financial aid office and on-line.

Educational Loans

The funds for Stafford Loans and Parent Loans for undergraduate students are received electronically and credited to your account if eligibility criteria have been met. First time loans require a Master Promissory Note to be submitted to the lender in a timely manner in order to ensure that funds are available before the fee deadline. Apply on-line for a loan.

As with other awards, if your loan funds exceed the balance due the University, a check made payable to you will be available within 10 working days of the posting of the award in the Business Office. Any balance from a PLUS loan will result in a check made payable to the parent borrower and will be forwarded to the borrower’s home address.
