Paul Smith served as Director of Thomas Good Jones School of Law from 1998 until 2001. Currently he is Assistant Dean for Administration. Prior to joining the law school, he served as an officer with the U.S. Army in Germany; an instructor at Yancy State Junior College; UniServe Director for the Alabama Education Association and the National Education Association; and Executive Director of the Alabama State Employees Association.
Smith received his BA and MA degrees in American History from Auburn University. He completed all requirements but the dissertation for the Ph.D. degree from the University of Georgia (Major: American History, Minor: Political Science). He taught freshman American History at both Auburn and Georgia.
He and his wife, Barbara, have two children and one grandchild. He is a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Montgomery, where he served for twelve years as Deacon and Elder.
