The 69th Annual Faulkner Lectures * March 4-7, 2013

The theme for the 2013 Faulkner Lectures is "The Power of Parables: Bible Stories that Comfort, Convict & Convert." We will be exploring the theological richness of some of the Old Testament and New Testament parables. Additionally, many presentations and panel discussions will cover pressing and important Christian topics that are designed to encourage, to fortify, and to build faith. We believe that God will touch both mind and heart as we all seek to glorify God in the church that belongs to Jesus! Make plans to be on the campus of Faulkner University for an inspirational and spiritual experience!
Our keynote speakers will be probing some of the lesser known but powerful parables in the Bible:
Several specialty tracks have been added to the program for 2013. Dr. C. Michael Moss will conduct a training series on "Preaching through the Parables." Each morning, Dr. Terry Edwards will lead us on a tour around the Sea of Galilee as he discusses the places, purpose, and power of Jesus' parables. Our women will enjoy a series of presentations by Sharon Paulk on the topic "Jesus, the Master Teacher." Jim McGuiggan will challenge us with a series entitled "Worship Worth Talking About." And, because of our commitment to restoration principles, the Faulkner Lectures will begin with a full day of presentations on the Restoration Movement.
Several critical issues facing the church will be addressed each day by a panel of well-qualified Christian servants:
"Is A Cappella Singing Becoming a Thing of the Past?" (Tom Alexander, David Lipe, Cecil May)
"Equipping Youth and the Task of Youth and Family Ministry" (Dale Jenkins, David Baker, Lonnie Jones)
"How Do We Counter the Impact of Contemporary Culture upon the Mission of the Church?" (Tom Riley, Aubrey Johnson, David Shannon)
Additionally, we have embedded within the Faulkner Lectures a Youth and Family Ministry Summit (YFMS). We recognize at Faulkner University that youth and family ministry performs a crucial service in the Lord's church. We want to help equip and encourage youth and family ministers. We will be covering a number of practical and theological topics during the YFMS:
"How to Build a Youth Program with Volunteers" (David Baker)
"Innovative Ideas for Teaching Teens" (Andrew Jenkins)
"The Biblical Foundations for Youth and Family Ministry" (Jeremy Hinote)
"New Songs for Youth Groups" (Jon Podein)
"Let's Get Real with Ministry" (Dale Jenkins)
"How to Plan a Youth Mission Trip from Start to Finish" (Mike Whisenant)
"Working with the 'Other Guys' on the Ministry Team" (Paul Spurlin)
"Ministry and Technology" (Joey Sparks, Scott Bond Jr., Daniel Howell)
Finally, during the week you'll have the opportunity to participate in a number of enjoyable events like singing in the Atrium of the Bible building, joining in or listening to a bluegrass jam with the L.A. ("Lower Alabama") Codgers, and enjoying performances by the Faulkner Chorus, the Alumni Chorus, and Cornerstone. If you'd like to sing well into the evening, you'll have the opportunity to join the "Late Night Singing" on Tuesday at 9:00 PM.
Join us for a week packed full of events and activities.
